Williams, Sonia S.

Sonia Williams is a critically acclaimed director, performer, educator, writer, and researcher in Caribbean culture. Sonia has taught at the University of the West Indies Cave Hill, Barbados Community College and the Edna Manley College for the Visual and Performing Arts. She is the winner of the a Watson fellowship to Nigeria 1989, the Governor General Award for excellence in Drama 1998. A veteran of the stage, she can also be seen in local and international films. Productions she directed have been used for days of national significance and represented the island internationally. Sonia is a writer of poetry, prose and plays, her work explores personal and social issues within forms of Standard English and Caribbean nation-languages. Sonia's first Novella This Too Will Pass has received excellent reviews and is being used by some teachers in Barbadian schools. She has won third prize in the prestigious Frank Collymore Literary Endowment twice in 2018 with her collection 'Her Bald Head Luminous' and in 2019 for her collection 'On Livity'. Sonia writes, facilitates workshops and creates theatrical experiences to develop a more humane society through artistic excellence.
