Alzheimer's is one of the saddest illnesses we know. It affects an estimated 44 million people globally, with a new case developing every minute in the US. As those afflicted are robbed of their ability to remember, reason and do for themselves, families are often devastated by the loss of their loved one's presence and spirit. And yet, throughout my father's 18 years of living with the disease, it was very possible to find moments of resilience, influence and inspiration. That's probably the greatest lesson of all of these memory fragments that I've written. Try to live your life in such a way that it may be of use to others, a joy to remember (the good and the bad of it) amid all the hardships we all will know at some point.
