About the event
Wayne Jordan had always dreamed of becoming a published author. In 2003 he won the Heart & Soul Aspiring Authors' Contest (at the annual Romance Slam Jam Conference), which lead to a writing contract. In November 2005, his dream came true with the publication of his first novel, Capture the Sunrise, by BET Books. Since then, Wayne’s publishing career has flourished and he’s earned an international following for his contemporary Romance novels which feature Black heroes and heroines.
A Teacher “by day”, Wayne notes: “I've always been an advocate for romance, in particular, romance which features a black hero and heroine. I've watched the publishing industry and find the categorising of the books, we black authors write, as shades of our past, rooted in slavery and segregation. We write Contemporary, Mystery, Romance Suspense and in all the other genres. As far as I know there is no genre called African-American.”
Having worked with international publishers and successfully self-published his own books, Wayne is well equipped to present this month’s Writers’ Clinic on Self-publishing.
His most recent publication, Promise Me a Dream, was released in September 2019.
