Writers' Clinic February 2026 - Poetry Demystified
Many thanks for joining us for Saturday's session (February 14th).
As Sharma noted, it was wonderful to spend time sharing our love for words. 🥰
Please feel free to share your feedback on the workshop here.
What was the most significant take-away for you? 👀😊
I'll post the slide presentation soon!

Homework
Blackout
No light, no power, we stumble home
The night’s palette inky monochrome
Harpy Howling sounds rebound
From hungry hounds in distant towns
Toy Downtime
In the dying time of day
The children like misers count minutes left to play
Streetlights come on
And mothers call
Put away the bat and ball
Tired feet go in
First to eat
And then to sleep
Lunchtime
The clock inches towards twelve
The hallway sits in anticipation
Not too long now
Noisy welcome bell
Books slap shut
Classroom doors fly open
Mad stampede of feet
Chicken and chips headline the menu
Janet
The day start off quiet and good
Bajans suspect t’was another falsehood
But by three, the sky change
Putrid purples Gloom grays
It was something very strange
All of a sudden men moving fast
Them finally taking tings serious at last
De sheets and clothes all come off de line
The palin strap down wit strong rope and twine
Down at de harbour, the sea now start
Nasty giant waves want to rip de seawall apart
Nen in de doorway watching de elements collate
Arms folded, face set, Sphinx standing guard at her gate
De man on the radio talking nuff bout Janet as though she a new friend
Tight voice in me head telling dis romance going come to bad end
