Writers' Clinic February 2026 - Poetry Demystified

Many thanks for joining us for Saturday's session (February 14th).

As Sharma noted, it was wonderful to spend time sharing our love for words. 🥰

Please feel free to share your feedback on the workshop here.

What was the most significant take-away for you? 👀😊

I'll post the slide presentation soon!

Homework

Blackout

No light, no power, we stumble home

The night’s palette inky monochrome

Harpy Howling sounds rebound

From hungry hounds in distant towns

Toy Downtime

In the dying time of day

The children like misers count minutes left to play

Streetlights come on

And mothers call

Put away the bat and ball

Tired feet go in

First to eat

And then to sleep

Lunchtime

The clock inches towards twelve

The hallway sits in anticipation

Not too long now

Noisy welcome bell

Books slap shut

Classroom doors fly open

Mad stampede of feet

Chicken and chips headline the menu

Janet

The day start off quiet and good

Bajans suspect t’was another falsehood

But by three, the sky change

Putrid purples Gloom grays

It was something very strange

All of a sudden men moving fast

Them finally taking tings serious at last

De sheets and clothes all come off de line

The palin strap down wit strong rope and twine

Down at de harbour, the sea now start

Nasty giant waves want to rip de seawall apart

Nen in de doorway watching de elements collate

Arms folded, face set, Sphinx standing guard at her gate

De man on the radio talking nuff bout Janet as though she a new friend

Tight voice in me head telling dis romance going come to bad end

Writers' Clinic July 2025 - Self Publishing 101

Greetings!

I'm still buzzing from our last Writers' Clinic Online session!

Callie Browning's presentation was so inspiring.

My take: "Self publishing may be time-consuming, hard work; however, when done right, it can be very rewarding."

I know what I'll be doing when I retire! 🤭😉😂

Callie has been kind enough to share the Key Takeaways from her session.

Your poem reminded me of my own mother, Nailah. In life, she was warm and soft and I loved her hugs. I love, love, love, the final line. I hope that you do in fact do something with these poems and look forward to other workshops.

Sharon-Rose, you poem is highly visual. I can see your mother in the church. It took me back to days of sitting upstairs in the Anglican church, looking down in the congregation to find people I knew. I picture you, like a little girl, searching anxiously to find your mother in that congregation on the TV screen. Love this piece.

Writers' Clinic February 2025 - Planning your Novel with Wayne Jordan

My biggest take away from this month's session was the idea of writing your novel's synopsis and back page blurb, plus creating your cover BEFORE writing the story. The motivational aspect of doing this appeals to me,

I plan my novellas in detail, therefore, producing the synopsis should be relatively easy.

What are your thoughts?

What was the best gem Wayne share in your opinion?

Yes it was extremely informative. As someone who is a unapologetic pantser, the idea of planning was intriguing, and the idea of doing the blurb, cover and synopsis made me think differently about certain things. All in all a lovely session as usual!

Hi Cori,

Like you, I currently use MS Word to plan the plot, characters and setting. However, I'll probably try Story Plotter and definitely want to use Page Tracker. I think the latter will be quite motivational since I'm (usually) goal oriented.

I think I might check out Write Way Pro too since I've heard positive things about that app.

Thanks for responding!

Looking forward to seeing you next month!
