I have always been drawn to writing poetry but it always seemed too big, too intelligent, and so unattainable. Kerry Belgrave was equivalent to the sun breaking thru the clouds on a very cloudy day. Smiley face. I'm already using one of the techniques he taught. He delivered his presentation which was packed with knowledge and insight of his craft so well that it left us all wanting more, as well as having the desire to at least try writing a poem or maybe a better poem.
Mr. Kerry Belgrave will always be my favourite Barbadian poet. This session today was nothing short of spectacular. I have recognised a plethora of ways in which I can improve my teaching methodology by incorporating a heightened degree of defamiliarisation. As Kerry’s lessons unraveled so too did my visions of my next poetry lesson. On a Kerrismatic note, Kerry’s overall persona, magnetizes anyone to want to learn or hear about the nuggets of knowledge he wishes to impart! Anything that Kerry touches turns into gold !!!!!!!!!
Finally, my love for writing poetry has metastasized! I am writing a poem WRITE now (pun intended).
Kerry's Poetic Imagery session was an enlightening journey through the world of poetry. With a major focus on the concept of Defamiliarization, the session proved to be both informative and inspiring.
Throughout the session, we were guided through various examples and exercises, illustrating how defamiliarization can breathe new life into our poetry. His insightful commentary and depth of knowledge were truly remarkable, making the session engaging and thought-provoking.
The concept of defamiliarization left a lasting impact on all attendees. By challenging us to see the familiar in unfamiliar ways, he encouraged us to break free from conventional thinking and explore new avenues of creativity.
Overall, the session was a testament to his expertise and passion for the art of poetry. The major takeaway of defamiliarization will undoubtedly influence the way we approach our writing, empowering us to craft poetry that is both unique and impactful.
An excellent session. I'm tentative in poetry workshops but Kerry's teaching, exercises and examples were wholly accessible and have strengthened my writing arsenal to improve the literariness of my prose fiction. I loved it! My main highlight was hearing about Defamiliarisation for the first time and getting to practice it in a safe environment. Thank you!!
