For me, it was the point about being honest with yourself and readers. I think in particular it lends to more well-rounded characters with both good qualities and flaws. This in turn leads the reader to see them as more relatable - which is good news for the author!
Dr Milagro Marshall's presentation was extremely engaging, well planned and executed. What stood out most for me was the point of being observant. The writer must able to create intriguing stories that heightens the senses of readers. We must therefore tap into our emotions and showcase authenticity with the world. I look forward to seeing her upcoming projects.
I also love the fact that Sharon made the important link between reading and writing, offering participants excellent examples of memoirs including classics, recent publications and local fare as well.
Another highlight for me is the way Sharon so generously shared the space with other writers (Nigel and Viola) who have (and are) also writing this genre.
All around, a suberp presentation!
For me it was Step #1 Be observant. And the way Sharon demonstrated that with the vivid excerpt from her own memoir "Journeys: Around the World for Love and Money".
