Marc gave a very insightful presentation... so much information!
I will never read a comic (or graphic novel, for that matter) in quite the same way again... not now that I know some technical terms.
Just want to add that I use comic strips in my teaching. In language arts they make great writing prompts, and in literature I have students illustrate texts as 8-panel comic strips. This calls for them to summarise the text and add their own dialogue. To be honest we don't focus on the artwork; students can draw stick figures. It's the representation that matters. Once the cartoons are complete, students share their creations with classmates so we can all see how similar and yet how different their creations are. And we all learn.
Thank you all very much! I had a fun time!
