Inspiring! My takeaway: The narrative voice can feed off many sources. I'm going to write a piece of speculative flash fiction using a hardboiled voice. What a useful session! So well organised and expressed. Fun too.

This is a real plunge. Striking imagery that uplifts, then assaults and batters the emotions.

This session was useful to me in sorting out the novel I'm stuck on. The lightbulb moment was that maybe it should be a series of stories instead. At the very least, it would feel less daunting.

Excellent workshop. Shakirah has always impressed me. Way back, when she read one of her short stories (aloud, duh) at an event, I knew this was a talent to watch. Little did I know that she would also become a clear, concise and inspiring teacher. Today's session provided a key to fixing something I find missing in some of my own work. I'm so grateful. I went straight to work on it.
